The Grand Stables and the Musée Vivant du Cheval®

Built in the 18th century, the Grand Stables are considered among the most beautiful stables in the world. Since 1982, they house the Musée Vivant du Cheval®, which owes much of its success to its educational activities.

Home to some thirty horses of different breeds and with 800 m² of exhibition space, the Grand Stables present an educational dressage demonstration.

By joining in a guided tour of “Le Pin” national stud, you will enjoy a stroll through the stables, home to horses at the service of the horse-breeding world. This stroll can even be prolonged by visiting the new Discovery Trail, depicting a colourful and modern sphere with the most recent technologies and enabling you to better understand the world of horses and “Le Pin” National Stud.

The 19th October 2008, the 7 flat and steeplechase racing of the “Bergerie” racecourse will be followed by the horse-drawn carriage parade.”

A Mecca for the Breton horse and its breeders of yesteryear, who created the Postier Breton (the Breton post horse), the mighty and spirited offspring of Breton mares bred to Norfolk trotter stallions, the Haras national (national stud farm) de Lamballe keeps a long-standing breeding and driving tradition alive.

This place offers 20 hectares for numerous equestrian events and art exhibitions to take place. It is also home to the “Ecurie de Spectacle” (the circus horses stable) : a nurturing bed for budding talent, both human and equine, and a springboard for shows that fit the spirit of the “Haras”.

Since 1857, the National Stud Farm, situated in the heart of the medieval town of Hennebont, has kept alive the tradition of breeding magnificent Breton stallions.

Located within the Stud Farm, the Horse Discovery Centre offers an entertaining and interactive visit to enable you to learn more about this prestigious site and the wonderful horses. The exhibition centre and a guided visit of the stables show the history of man’s relationship with horses, the different crafts and trades involved and daily life at the Stud Farm.

The Discovery Centre is open from April to September and during the autumn half-term holiday. It is open all year for groups, by appointment. The visit lasts 90 minutes. Special events during the school holidays and a horse show in summer.

The Haras National du Lion d’Angers [the Lion d’Angers National Stud] is located in magnificent grounds, that of the Domaine de l'Isle Briand [the Isle Briand Estate] in the Pays de la Loire region [the Loire Counties].
It has both modern 20th century and old facilities including the castle and ancient buildings dating back to the 13th century.

There are almost 160 hectares which are entirely devoted to horses.
They can be visited by the public on foot during guided tours from April to September or in carriages in June, July and August. Many equestrian events are also held there and in particular the Mondial du Lion [the Lion World Championships for Young Eventing Horses].

The Ecole Nationale d'Equitation [the National Riding School] has inherited a prestigious heritage and was created around the renowned Cadre Noir de Saumur [the Cadre Noir Equestrian Troop of Saumur] in 1972.

The school is specialized in professional training. It is equipped with exceptional facilities which make this place essential to visit: 300 hectares of land, 50km of tracks, 16 outdoor schools and 400 horses which are stabled in a setting that is dedicated to horses.
Between April and October, go behind the scenes of a school which is unique in the world!

With dozens shows during the day and in the evening, 17 restaurants, themed hotels and 45 hectares of nature … the Puy du Fou offers an outstanding journey through time!

Its Equestrian Academy is the biggest stables used for entertainment purposes in Europe with 160 horses which have been trained in all of the disciplines: vaulting, stunts, driving, dressage etc.
They are trained on a daily basis and follow a healthy diet fit for top-level athletes in order to be able to ensure the marathon of 1,500 performances from April to September.
